2005 Heritage: Confused about adding passenger floorboards
I have look at numerous passenger floorboards both HD and Kury. What is the deal about the mounts? The standard factory peg mount accepts the standard male footpeg. But apparently the floorboard requires a different mount, and boy are they expensive compared to the floorboards themselves. So, what am I looking for? Every time I look at a website at floorboards it says "must use a kit", but it never shows me a photo or mates the correct kit to be used for the specific floorboards. Thanks.
Brackets have a scallop that goes around the swingarm pivot bolthead and nut so that the floorboard can' just spin if it was only mounted by 1 bolt like a peg. Most kits have a left and right hex head bracket (they're different), two footboard pan brackets (which are the same),
two pans, two footboard rubbers, and some hardware. Chrome Covers are extra as are fancier rubber inserts. You can buy pans, inserts and pan brackets used on ebay. You will need to get the frame mounting brackets that are particular to your bike. Therein lies the rub. The only place you can see the part numbers is on the dealers 3 ring binder, his computer, or on the instructions for the kit that will fit your bike. If you can get the two part numbers for those brackets you can order them at one of the online HD dealers at a discount and put together a package with the other used parts that will cost about 2/3 or less of the $250 kit.
Thank you both for your helpful replies. Next: it appears that the original peg mounts are screwed into the frame. Is this true? In your experience are these "threadlocked" at the factory? I'm just worried about breaking off the stud screw as I attempt to unbolt the mounts. Thanks.

They'll come off no problem. I had to take miine off during my pipe install. Nothing to worry about. Now, will those floorboards work with my V&H Longshots?
I just posted in the for sale softail section a set of mounting brackets and chrome adjustable passenger floorboard kit. Everything except the footboard itself. Brand new. Here's the link: https://www.hdforums.com/forum/softa...-or-trade.html

Reason: added link
If you are using v&h true duals they will not work.
are you sure about this? I've been leaning towards the Vance and Hines true duals with fish tails... And I have the passenger floorboards. Is there a clearance issue on the left side?
