What's the difference between most regular ape-hanger handlebars and ape-hangers for bikes with a springer front end? I plan on slapping a set of 16" or 18" apes on my '08 softail custom, and I find myself liking the narrower apes is see in different catalogs, etc. ...BUT, all the narrower ape-hangers seem to be for springers... I don't get it, is the riser-to-bar connection different?
I used to have 18" apes that were 1"diam on my springer when I had the stock risers. I kept stripping the nuts on the risers so I went to the Ness triple tree conversion when I upgraded to the Chubby 20"s I'm currently running. My friend has the 18" Chubby's on his 06 Deluxe and used to have 16" LA Gangsta's on it before.
Highbars92, are those Wild 1 Chubbys, W0569? I'm looking for a set of 16" Apes for my 08 XBones. They have the look I want, and it looks like they are internally wired, (a must). Did you do the install yourself? If so, what length lines did you end up having to go with?
They are the W0571 20"s with the W0526 4" risers and W0505 smooth clamp. I had to change the triple tree with an Arlen Ness conversion so I could run the standard bars and not the Springer bars with the wider clamp. I bought all of this from ebay seller lwr821akaak47. They were blems and I got a really good deal on them. They had a couple of nicks but nothing bad enough to not buying them. Me and a friend internally wired the bars. It was a PIA but definately worth it. I see why the dealers charge so much to run them. It took us about 3 hours to wire the bars. You can check with Hill City Custom Cycles as they do sell a lot of Apehanger kits and will probably give you the correct length cables to run. I don't even remember the lengths that we used. Hopefully this will help you.
I'm looking for mini apes with a 8.5" to 9.5" rise, 1 1/4" diameter and, here's the kicker....7" to 8" center width.
the reason for the 7" center width is the fact that every set of apes that I have seen so far, especially ones made for springers, have at least a 10" center width, and that looks like sh$t to me when it's on a narrow front end like a springer......
