After 4 weeks of waiting for my cables I get them home and I got problems. I was wondering what after market degree bend you guys are using for the lower fitting on the brake caliper on the front of a night train. It looks like factory is around 80 deg? Also, I have 13" apes, what degree bend do you use up top? The stealer sold me a straight fitting, I think it will be too far out in right field. Also, do you guys find that your throttle and idle cable needs to be a few inches shorter than the clutch and break cable + measurement from stock? My throttle and idle cables look a few inches too long. What a PIA.
the 35 should go to the resivoir. the two fittings are different sizes so ya cant screw it up. look at your stock hose as a reference. i believe my idle/throttle were +10 and the brake line was a 47".
If the T/I cables look a bit too long because they hit the trees when you turn to the right. You might try routing them between the headlight and the fork tube instead of behind.
Longer cables can get crimped a bit if they hit there but routed properly will actually work smoother because they have less bend angle in them.
I believe that the lower brake fitting should be a 90 degree fitting (there are no 80 degree fittings that I am aware of) at least that's what the parts manuals I have say about it. But unless they changed the caliper drastically between 07 and 08 I don't understand why the one you have doesn't fit.
I went out into the garage to look at my Custom (same front end) because I didn't understand what you meant by the fitting hitting the bolt. Looking at my front brake you could use any angle fitting from 0 through 90 degree's without a problem.
So you can understand my confusion. is there anyway you could post a pic of it so I can see what your talking about?
I called Barnett today about the T/I cables, they are on the way back to them to get 2" taken off them. I also called Goodridge and I have a new brake line on the way. I ordered a 70 deg banjo, which is supposedly stock Harley bend on the brake caliper. The 35 deg banjo did not clear the front caliper mount bolt. A 90 deg would have worked, but IMO would have thrown the cable to far back away from the forks. Im getting a 35 deg banjo for the top reservoir. Hope this works. This has been PIA because I wanted to keep the Black nylon look.
Citoriplus what height are your apes?
No apes, I had to change out the stock mini apes for what HD calls 'Bombay' bars with an integrated tach housing. They bring the grips back a couple of inches and down to nearly the top of the tank.
I smashed my right elbow and wrist, damaging the circulation and nerves in a fall off the top of a house about 20 years ago. The stock apes made my right hand and wrist go numb and hurt after about 20 or 30 miles. So I needed to find something different cause I wasn't going to quit riding. The tach housing was a nice bonus as I wanted a tach up but didn't like the idea of having to look down at a combo speedo/tach.
This is the bike in its nearly original stock condition. I had tipped the bars back a little to make it more comfortable, but it really wasn't enough.
This is it after I changed the bars and a bunch of other things as part of last winters mods.
