Now that the speedo is electronic and not cable driven how does it measure the MPH you are going?? I mean what does it get its speed from if not the tire going around??

To be more specific, will changing from a 200/55/17 to a 200/50/17 on the rear change the speedo readings? It made quite a noticeable diff in the acceleration of the bike and makes 6th gear more useable, put 4th and 5th in the powerband much sooner. Just wondering about speedo being accurate. Also went to Radials and the diff is really nice in the ride and handling dept.

The difference in size of those 2 tires is only 10mm which is only .3 inches. If it affects that speedo at all, it will be at best 1 mph

If I figured this correctly, changing from an approx rear wheel dia of 25.66 to 24.87,your speedo would probably indicate around 3% higher than you are actually moving.
