Bought new gas caps as the old ones did this aswell. But new ones are doing same thing, after riding or just being moved around i can hear a squeal coming from my tank and as soon as i unscrew the right side alittle it will let all the air out and quiet up.
Seems odd to me as i bought vented gas cap set i believe right side only. also there is a plug in the right side tank stem that comes out the bottom of tank. it leads up to gas cap vent hose. should try to open that up and run a small hose to the bottom of bike so air can get out.
If so how the hell do you do it without taking tank off and letting gas dry out... looks to be copper in it.
Don't get the "squeal" part: mouse in the tank? LOL Split tanks have a continuous venting system tube running between the tanks which leads to the fuel tank vapor valve. Could be the line is pinched, plugged, or valve is defective.
Sounds like your vent line is plugged. There is a crossover between the tanks at the top, goes under dash on mine and there is a small vent tube high up on the right side tank for a vent line. My line runs under the dash below my seat down between the battery box. I had been getting fuel out my right side and it turned out it was pinched under the seat. As for doing it without taking tank off it is up to how nimble your fingers are getting that line hooked up. I used a long needle nose pliers to accomplish it.
Ya mine is right beside the crossover so very easy to get to but it is sealed/plugged looks to have never been open. Not sure how easy it is to get the copper plug out so i can run a line out under the bike so it can breath.
The vented cap you are using only lets air in and not out. Pressure is vented on a second line and ususally ends up just ahead of the rear tire. Mud dobber may have sealed it and you are building up excess pressure. If you don't have this line out of the tank, you have to modify the cap to vent both ways, but don't fill it to the top when you get gas. Just like the olden days.
