I ride a '04 FXST and I really hate saddlebags but since I ride 24/7 365 I bought a swingarm bag-one of the best pieces of gear that I ever bought!
Inside the bag I have two MRE meal pouches that I carry.
By folding a portion of the MRE pouche and adding velcro, I have a flap and ez access.
The first one contains a basic HD tool kit, torx, allen wrenches, etc. Within that bag I have a small ziploc bag that contains loctite, shrink wrap, lighter and other misc. electrical items.
The second pouche contains first aid junk, extra pesos, bandana etc.
Extra zipties and boxwrenches, baling wire are in the bottom of the swing-arm bag along with a siphon hose.
I have a mini-maglite, 10mm wrench (the negative cable on my battery is notorious for loosening up), 3/16 allen wrench to remove seat, and an extra set of cheapo sunglasses at the top for ez access.
So, I'm pretty well 'self-contained' and in true Marine Corps fashion, everything is waterproofed!
LMAO Rocker but true!! I don't carry any tools this is not the days of the shovel heads. on days riding to work and local riding all day i carry nothing. If iam taking off on a long cpl day trip usually with my dad we put a roll of tools in his ultra with the basic stuff we would possibly need some wrenchs, allen's zip ties etc. With a new harley for the most part daily riding you shouldn't need much if anything i hope. Did need some tools one day luckily my dad and some buddies were about 20min behind me and had the allens i need to tighten my shift linkage
Leatherman tool, knife, cell phone, flashlight, an allen key set and that's about it. Used to carry many tools in fork bag. Someone needed it and stole the kit. I had some specialty tools in that bag, lost forever.
I've got a chrome toolbox...inside it I keep a leatherman tool (it has pliers, flat and philips drivers, and a knife)...an allen key to take my seat off in case I need to get to the battery, and that's about it.
plus one on that
also carry cell phone and towing card.
but then again I ride in sunny so cal..

lets see on the shovel head, screw drivers, wrenches sockets and of course a couple of plugs for the rear cylinder. On the xbones I carry slime for a tubed tire and a aircompressor for when I take longer trips when I have my saddle bags on, you never know when you gonna have a flat at 1:30 in the morning 75 miles out on a saturday night, wait a minute, I do Know.
