I usually carry a small set of channel locks, and I mean small (about 6" long) zip ties, pocket knife, Duct tape (fix anything wif that stuff), a flash light, lighter, ans a multi bit screw driver
Carry a small kit with standard stuff. Multi-tip (w/ allens) screwdriver, 6" cresent, channel loks, some black tape. Will add a small rachet with chosen sockets and tire patch kit for longer rides.
Only thing I have ever needed, when stuck on the road, was a flat tip screwdriver and jumper cables the day my battery died.
Always carry a cell phone. For long trips, i might purchase a a phone card for those times when I have no cell or PDA service in a given area.
I have a set of cruz tools. I have used the allen wrenches to tighten my highway pegs when they came loose. I lost one completely between Red Lodge and Billings. I pulled into Beartooth Harley and bought a new set and installed them in the parking lot with my tools. Another time I met a rider at the first rest area into Oregon on I-90. He had a stripped heel/toe shifter. I loaned him my tools and he was able to reset the linkage and get home. It doesn't take up much space and I like to have some tools. My bike is now 7 years old so you never know when a few tools might get you going again.
