hello, i need a little advice, i am planning on taking a bike trip from oklahoma to las vegas the last week in april, 10 day trip, 3 days up 3 or 4 days in vegas then 3 days back, gonna see the grand canyon etc, is that a good time to see death valley? i am planning on taking my 96 springer fxsts, i know its gonna be a rough ride but i would like to help that if i can, i would like advice on the most comfortable seat with a backrest, or should i get one of those double waffle seat pads and a detachable backrest? also i dont know much on the jets for the carb, but i know with the elevation i will prolly have to change it? (not too many mods have a hypercharger air breather and cobra pipes no baffles if that helps) any help is appreciated, thanks in advance
Death Valley should be great at that time but if you're planning on going to the North Rim at the Grand Canyon I'd check the weather and conditions first. Could be kinda dicey still.
thanks for your responses, but you dont think it will hurt if it is running rich for those few days, when should one have to change jets before it hurts the motor, and will it matter if i use the lower octane gas in it?, thanks
Get an Air Hawk seat cover. It's THE BEST there is. I did a 4300 mile, round trip, to Sturgis this past year and one of those days was a 700 mile ride. We were gone 10 days total and I couldn't have done it without the Air Hawk...I'm totally sold. My buddy had one also and he feels the same...heck, I loaned it to my friend that has a street glide and HE just bought one...we're doing 10 days to Daytona and the Keys, the end of February. He couldn't decide between new seats...after trying the Air Hawk, it was a done deal for him.

Might think of bringing along an extra set of spark plugs....wouldn't wanna be stuck with fouled plugs if your running rich
I don't know about what seat to use, but I know this. I attached a bag against my sissy bar and leaned against that the entire 2000 mile trip I took last year.
It worked great plus it was free. I didn't have some fancy motorcycle bag either. This was a duffle bag stuffed with my crap and a pillow. Pretty nice way to travel IMO.
Of course I don't dig windshields either so I may just be a moron!
