Default Is stage 1 needed?

This is for a friend. He has an 09 heritage w/stock pipes. He's tired of the sewing machine.Any how he wants to change his pipes.Money is tight and wanted to get some duals but duals plus stage1 is out of reach right now.So he's looking at stage1 plus pipes from dealer no price yet. Is stage1 necessary? He wants decent pipes but the combo of stage1 and pipes other than the dealers might be out of reach.Any opinions i could give him?
thanks

Slip ons will give a good "Harley" sound and they can be found on eBay and the like for maybe $200 (maybe less). I've got the V&H on's on my Sportster and they're louder than my double barrels on the Deluxe. Then he can go to the duals when his finances get better. May need a new download at that time though.

He should consider slip-ons..depending on what he choses, slipons can cost around $200 and up. Shouldnt need to do a full Stage 1 with slip-ons only...Good luck and I feel his pain with all the money problems in the world today...

I agree with the slip ons. A fraction of the cost without the stage 1 upgrade or the dyno tune. There is a slip on out there where you can add to it later on to make a full exhaust without wasting any money or the slip ons. I forgot the name of it though.

My vote would be for the Rush 1.75 which I've been running for over a year. No remap needed. You should be able to get a pair for around $250.

Check out hooker.com. All pipes are 75% off. Not much left, but maybe something that will work for him.

As long as he only changes the pipes he doesn't need to do anything else. Free-up the intake with a high flow filter and he will need to remap. Street legal Harley download runs 180 installed.
