I ahve the detachable sissy bar with the rack on it, and it has a really long looking key. This is on a 2002 FLSTFI. The bikes is set up so the rack can be put on or taken off real easy, but has the lock since I live in Los ANgeles, and people are crazy here. I put the key in the lock,(it barely fit tall wise)due to the luggage rack, and turned the key to open it. I could barely move the key to get it out of the lock, but wehn It came out, a part of the lock was stuck inside of the key. Great! No tols even needed and I messed it up. Anyway, I cant get the piece out of the key, and I cant get the rack off of the bike. The wife loves the reack, and it is handy sometimes, but I want to be able to take it off. Going to the dealer is not an option. Too much time and money. Any suggestions? I dont care if it locks or not oce i get it off, but i would like to be able to use it. Thnaks for your help.
You will need to get a small cut off wheel like on a Dremel mototool and cut the shaft of the latch off as close as you can. Then remove the rack. Once you do that you can replace the locks.
In the future lube the locks once in a while with a bit of Tri-flow.
