Default RE: lowering ?

I just lowered my 05nighttrain this past weekend using hd lowering kit for $89.It lowered the bike a inch, and that's what I was looking for. the job took a couple of hours, but it was time well spent. As far as bottoming out, i'm 163 lbs and there's alotta room under that fender to the top of the wheel, so i'm not concerned.

These 89 dollar lowering kits that look like two bolts.... The kit I got (forgot where) required that you break the shock down and replace the stock "bolt" with a longer one. I needed a press and a ton of patence but got it done. It was not easy to say the least. Are your kits the same? Or are people just attaching these new bolts on the end of the old bolt? Seems to me that would be too long???

The kit like the one you described from Ness will allow you to drop the bike down to the stops if you so choose. Thats where I like mine. Looks bitchin and rides like a lumber wagon but thats the price you pay for COOL.

i lowered my 01 fat boy 1.5" in the rear. i have bottomed out on a few speed bumps and some bad bridges on the interstate. the ride has stiffened up some what but not too bad. when my wife rides, we still have enough play in the suspension that it still a comfortable ride for her, she can't tell anyway. i went with the bolt on kit from hd. no problems.

I bought the HD lowering Shocks for my Fat Boy but it only lowered 1". Want it another half inch lower, what is the best way to do this? I'm not to worried about bottoming out I ride solo and am only 144 lb.

I have the White Bros adjustable kit ($80). Lowered it 1.5. Have not bottomed out yet but then I'm only 185lbs. Kids ride with me and still no problem. I needed the bike loked over so at the time it was in the shop I had them do it. Professionally installed and no worries. I also didn't want to take the time and rig up a press for the shocks to install the new bolts.

Nobody seems to have any problems with this type of a lowering job, including the kickstand, which could leave it sitting up straighter. So, if the reduced Softail ride (as compared to external shocks) is not an issue sounds like it will be a good move for you.
