I went on a long ride Saturday and noted that I did not use the heal shifter once. I also noticed that it kicks my heal out slightly and after a while starts to bug me.
Anyway, my question is if I remove the heal shifter what have any of you done to cover the shaft. Do you leave it? Do you move the toe shifter out a little to cover it? Is there a filler washer or cap you can get at the dealer to address this?
Harley makes a part for about $15 that you can get to cover the end of the shaft. You can also get a part from Kuryakyn that pushes the shift out to the end of the shaft.
Chrome Harley cover. About $10. When I got my bike the rear shifter was removed and the knurled end of the shifter stem was showing. Looked like crap. Went to the local Harley dealer and asked the guy at the parts counter for a cover and he hooked me right up.
Thanks to all for the options and insight, I stopped by Bluegrass Harley today and they had the chrome end cap for the stem. It was $12.95 so I got it and will take the heal shifter off tonight.
