dropped spacer

I dropped my back tire on my nightrain, not paying atten to the spacer [on tranny side] it has a groove on one end can anyone tell me if the groove goes to the inside or outside or if it matters?

grove is to tell left from right. as far as grove in or out shouldnt matter.
