No I actually didn't realize that it was such an old post. Just the one the forum search function brought up that was closest to what I was searching for after reading many.
Thanks for the advice. I have been trying to find some sort of user reviews of what conditioners work well but haven't had much luck with independent reviews.
I for one wasn't on this forum in 2009 and am interested today in 2014 what i can do to make or keep my bags on my Heritage looking good. Any and ALL information/help with doing that is greatly appreciated even if it was covered way back in 2009 or not......we can go over it once again now, today so the rest of us that either wasn't here or haven't seen that info can share everyone else's knowledge.
I put saggy bag inserts in my '14. I haven't done the covers yet because I don't want to take the bags off the bike for a 24 hour period. Maybe this winter. Obviously, my bags haven't started to sag yet, but I figured why wait until they do!
I use Pappa Bags inserts in mine and the Harley Davidson leather treatment every spring. My bags look like new. My bike is in the garage all of the time other than when I am riding it so I think that helps rather than being out in the weather all of the time.
I have been using the HD leather treatment at least once a year since I bought the bike in 95, and they still look great on the exterior. They haven't been completely wet more than a dozen times, and I am sure that has helped keep them in good shape.
I installed Papabags this year. I didn't realize how much the bags had sagged over the years. I carry a tool kit which I would move from side to side each year to make sure both bags looked the same.
I love me some Boss Bags! I went to Boss Bags and they did my bags on the spot. I Highly recommend them. It's been several years now and they still look like brand new. I condition them once a year with the HD leather care in a tub (Neutral color wax/paste).
I installed the saggy bag inserts on my 2014. It was real easy to do and I conditioned the leather before I did it. I wanted to get it done before my bags started shrinking and such.
I think if I had a heritage I'd consider getting a set from Iron Bags right away, or possibly hard leather covered bags like they used on the RK Classic.

I recently bought a used 2004 Heritage Softail. Pretty much mint condition except for a problem with saggy bags. I decided to try a quick and easy fix before anything else, so I opened the lid, drilled out the six rivets holding the plastic brace on the top edge of the bag, flipped it over and reinstalled it with the curve bowing outwards. It's straight as an arrow now and the bags look like new. Took all of about ten minutes.
