Question How do you remove pass. footpegs?

I have an 08 Softail Custom and wanted to remove the passenger footpegs.
I can't find anywhere in the service manual on how they come apart.

I would imagine they screw in, or are held by a bolt or something?

How do I get them off?

Thanks

Ride Safe

Default pegs

remove the bolt that the peg hinges on and remove peg. inside the mount you'll find an allen bolt that attaches the peg mount to the frame.

Same directions has above but my 06 is torx that holds the stem to the frame, the standard craftsman or stanly torx sockets were not long enough to reach the bolt head so I got the 90 degree set for this job.

You have to take the snap ring out and remove the pin that holds the peg on. If you are wanting to remove the peg mount, you need a size T-45 torx socket that is long enough to hit the bolt in the mount. If you don't have one there are other ways to get the mount loose and then you can get a flat head screw driver in there to take it out once it is loose. Email me if you are still having issues and I can better help you out.

For my '07 FXST, I couldn't find a Torx that was large and long enough. Went to Napa, and got a set of Torx drives for a 1/2" rachet that were made for brake calipers for a Chevy. I believe that you need a T45 torx to fit it.

Yes it is a T45 Torx and finding one long enough isn't easy. I borrowed one from a auto tech friend of mine, and once it was off I replaced it with a stainless steel hex head of the same size from Home Depot. I want to be able to remove those next time with my own tools.

Great, Thanks.

I would have never thought of taking the peg off first and looking for a bolt.

I will measure the depth and then search for the correct length tool.

Now do they make any type of chrome plug to plug the holes?

Thanks again.

Do you have more info on the set you bought for the '06?

I'm in the same boat.

it's the same bolt thread as the bolts that hold the strut to the rear fender.... I used the bolt I replaced when I put on the backrest uprights.
