Hey guys just got my bike about a month ago with 1038 miles and the dealer said I should get the 1000 mile service done. The guy I bought it from just chnaged the plugs and oil before the winter. What does this service include? How much does HD usually charge? Is it worth having the service done? Thanks in advance.
wished I could remember the list of things they check...I can let you know when i get home this evening after work if noone else posted it by then...prise, it depends where you live, if I remember right around here in tri-state its somewhere around the 300 to 500 ducats.
I had my 1 k service done by the dealer and that was the last time it has seen the inside of the dealership. just wanted to make sure it was on record that theyhad done it. now it has over 40 thou. on it and still runs and looks great
I can check when I get home in my service manual... what kind of bike are we talking? I know that 99% of the Softail models are the same exact checks.
If it was me (which is what I did), I would just go down and buy you a service manual for your bike. It lists on a table in the front of the book, everything you need to Inspect, Replace, or both, and tells you EXACTLY where to look, to perform the inspection / replacement. Very simple, and the book is written to where a 3rd grader could work on it. Very well laid out book.. props to HD on that! Very rare of HD to be so helpful.

You should get the receipts from the guy you bought it from though. "If" anything ever comes up regarding the warranty, the first thing they'll ask you for is proof that the 1K service was done. You can do it yourself, but you need to keep the reciepts for what you did and keep a journal of what was done.
I agree, I took it in for the 1k service, just to have it on record and to also get the stage 1 done. I will do the rest myself, with good record keeping for warranty purposes.
