i just put a new clutch cable on from drag spec. and when i pull the clutch in it is dragging. i can hardly move the bike if its in 1st gear and pull the clutch in. the new cable is about 4 inchs too long if that makes a difference. is it possible that where the cable is sitting inside the trans cover?
Well make sure you clutch is properly adjusted , both in the cable & at the clutch, if that all checks out then it may be possible that you disturbed the ball & ramp assy inside the trap door cover , you'll want to check that.
If the ball and ramp is set up properly, you may be able to adjust it from the clutch rod. On the cable, put all the slack in. Open u the clutch derby cover. Break open the nut with an 11/16 socket Use a 7/32 allen wrench, turn it clock wise until you feel it lightly seat. Pull on the clutch lever to make sure the ramp is seated. Then back off the allen 1/2 to 3/4 turn. Lock down the 11/16 nut. Take up the slack in the cable, leaving 1/8 inch slack at the lever.
if you are not sure you are adjusting the clutch right check on youtube there are some good videos there on how to adjust different things. he works on a road king but its all the same. just type in harley clutch adjustment
OMG! That guy is a train wreck! You pull the boot up, pulling it down makes it really hard to get the boot on. It will turn inside out. Then he slams the chrome derby cover on the lift. He uses a ball allen? Why? It is easy access, you want good contact on the clutch rod. You do hold it with the allen, then finger tight the locknut, then use the 11/16 socket to final tighten. Using the wrench to lock down the nut will just round the nut out.
