Question on rear passenger seat choice and footboards
I have a 2003 Heritage and want to do a couple things - one is put a larger and more comfy passenger pillion on the bike - I had a mustang on a previous bike and it was wider and softer. I'd like to keep the stock driver seat - had a hard time finding who might sell just the rear.
Also, I want to add passenger footboards - was surprised at the price of some of them - what are some affordable options?
Your passanger will love you for the floor boards, I put them on my 08 Fatboy and she's a 100 times happier on the back. As far as an affordable option I couldn't tell ya that as the only reason I have mine is I let my old man borrow my bike to go to Laconia for a couple of days and had mentioned I wanted to put some boards on the back, so he surprised me with a set. So all I can say is tell a lot of people about things you want for your bike maybe you'll get lucky.
I just had the passenger floorboards (and yes they are crazy expensive) and touring pillion put on my 08 Heritage. We have only have a short ride around the neighbourhood (still winter here) but my wife says they make a big difference.
I also have a sheepskin cover ordered which has not arrived yet. I am hoping this will make a difference for her on longer rides.
It is all expensive, and there are other things I would rather change, but if she is not happy, I am not happy
Thanks. I guess I'll run up to the dealer and see what they have for boards.
What is the size of the HD touring pillion? I really liked the mustang one, which was 14" i believe. She liked the stability and feel of it. I wonder if I can get one that will work with my stock front seat.
I changed my passenger seat from the stock 12" or what ever it is to the HD 14" that matches right up with the stock seat. It has always looked good and my wife luved me for it all though I told her just because I got her a wider seat it didnt mean her back half could get any wider. That went over well nothing like sticking your foot or feet in your mouth. LOL. I also had floor boards put on for her that she has always said was a world of difference. Not matter which route you go its worth the putting out the cash for. I went HD parts.
Thanks guys. I found an HD seat on Ebay for $109 and bought it. sweet deal.
I found a softail footboard set, chrome with a sortof Harley graphic but nice for about $80, but I am waiting to hear if they will work on a stock heritage without any other changes. If not, I'll stop by the dealer and pick up a set.
waited till dealer had 20% off and bite the bullett.
rear floor boards, touring pillion and detachable bracket and touring pad. wife can ride 2-3 hrs now as it used to be about 1hr before taking a brake and she has back issues.
I'm in the same boat. I want to keep the stock rider seat because it's so comfy but want to get the brick swapped out.
Is the HD touring pillion a better route to go than the Mustang passenger pillion? Will the Mustang not match up to the stock seat as well? I had a Mustang solo on my sportster and while it made a difference it wasn't as much as other people had me thinking it would be. Is the pillion gonna be the same as that?
I just added the touring pillion and touring backrest to my Heritage and the wife loves em. I payed retail cause I had the cash and didnt feel like waiting. was about $250 for both I think. I have the large Kury ISO pegs for her, she likes em cause she wedges her book around them. I want to add floorboards too ...but man, every option is $$$.
I'm thinking of starting with the Kuryakyn anti-rotation board mounts, so they dont come loose and them shopping around on eBay for some decent boards. I'm running half moons so would be cool if I could find some mini moons, but who knows
