first post and would like to thank all of you for the wealth of information ihave found here. after put on a set of troublemakers i went to see dealer about download they told me 169.00 plus 1hr labor for a total of 269.00 seemed a bit high since you guys are only paying 100-150 ? is dealer trying to take advantige? (sorrey no pics)
if you are going to do more modes like air beather then you should get a fuel management like fuel pack, PCIII, PCV or thundermax. YOU can find them used on the forum classified.
Ya, it sounds like it... download in the past only ran me 150.00
Plus, your dealer charges 100.00 an hour? that's ridiculous. I thought the norm to be around 65.00 or so.
I agree with the download price. However the dealer hourly charges all depends on where you live...here near NYC the hour charge now is around $120.00 at the dealers. And Indis tend to run around $90.00.
SilverBiker --> did you only change the exhaust? or did you change the air intake as well?
If you only changed the exhaust you should be fine without a download, if you changed the air intake then you will need the download.
I would say fuel management package from Thunder-Max or others. I see Fuel Moto mentioned often here, might check that out if you are going to do other mods in future.
I like my Thunder-Max got it through Cateye customs. Sorry to hear that shop rates are high in your area, here in Eastern Washington rates are $55-60 an hour. my Indy just went up to $60.00, I think the HD dealer is a wee more per hour, and they love to nail folks for precious dyno time, been there done that and went Thunder Max after that.
Leave the ECM alone and buy a Fuel Management Device. V & H Fuelpak can be found for < $ 200.00, PCIII for < $ 250.00. You can easily install yourself. Then in the future if you do any other changes your set.
The HD Download will help but is not the best way to go, it is still EPA Compliant and your bike will still be lean
