PITA= breaking bolts loose PITA=removing shocks from frame as they were a very tight fit PITA=trying to get bolts out of shocks before realizing i needed a press PITA=reinstalling shocks

actually the press part was simple.with 3 other ford mechanics around.IMO

well worth paying the $100bucks

There is no adjustment on the HD shocks for "dampening" the only adjustment is the spring preload.

Just becareful if you change the bolt yourself, springs can hurt you if you are not careful, lots of stored energy in them. If you can have it done for a $100 then I'd do it. It is a PIA to get them out, those bolts are tight.

Here are some pretty good pics. The hardest part is getting the shock bolts out if they have never been out before. Other than that it is very easy.

Buddy and I did them on the Wifes Deluxe. He ha press, so it wasn't all that bad. Took about an hour total time to remove, and replace.

Press is REQUIERED...don't even try it without access to one.

Imo, this is a task that can be accomplished by a moderately experienced do it yourselfer in about 2-3 hours. Advice given to review "fatbills" site is right on the money. He lists everything you need to have in hand and need to do. But i'll add...make a simple press, as i did, from light angle iron or flat steel and all thread rod. (1/2" diameter x 18". **beware when using a torch to heat the original bolts as there is a plastic spacer on the shock shaft. Don't have a melt down. **also be sure the shock eyelet has a recessed area to compress into. A piece of plastic pipe works great. Etc, etc

No, it needs to be a hydraulic press.

You need to compress the shock/damper/spring to un do the original bolt.

Drill press won;t do that!

I have attached the Wild1 work instructions
