Coaster,
What is the difference between their DOT and non-DOT helmets. I looked at the website and they look pretty similar. Is it the looks, size, weight or other?
The non-dot is smaller. I think they use different types of padding on the inside too. The dot has a thicker liner which makes it bigger then the non. Try a search on here. I'm pretty sure I recall someone making a comment that the non-dot passed most dot requirements. I would also call ACC. They are very friendly and they would be able to tell you exactly what you want to know. Hope this helps.

This is from their website:
DOT helmets must pass a battery of tests, one being a penetration test. This test is passed in DOT helmets by putting an inch or more of Styrofoam in the helmet. This is why DOT helmets are so big. In our new DOT helmet we have formulated a foam liner material that passes this same test but is only 5/8â thick resulting in a much smaller helmet. This new liner is so good we have applied for a patent on it.
Most Non-DOT helmets have a very cheap headliner material for the liner. We use an energy absorbing foam called Ensolite for our liner, while still being comfortable it offers energy absorbing properties that headliner material does not. Resulting in a small but safe helmet.
It is my understanding that the ONLY difference between the DOT and non-DOT helmets is the foam on the inside. The shells are all produced the same way. That being said, I still ordered the DOT helmet, flat black yesterday. Cost: $178.50 including shipping. We are still getting the 10% off if you mention this forum.
I have both a NEXL black carbon fiber and an ACC black carbon fiber. I like them both a lot. The NEXL is very comfortable with a snug fit. It is bigger than the ACC but not as big as the Harley half musroom fit. I have had no wind problems with it riding up to 70 with no windshield. The ACC is also comfortable, but not as much protection as the NEXL. It is smaller and has more of the brain bucket look. No wind problems with the ACC either.
