Default Shock Adjustment Issues

Is there any shock adjustment settings a person should know about? I road my bike of the showroom floor and adjusted nothing. I weight 240llbs and i bottom out here and there...rarely. I have not rode 2 up yet i am sure i will be soon.

Any advice would be very helpful as i am booked for some work on Saturday. They are telling me that I will be paying at least 1.5 hours labor for this service... this seems high for adjusting shocks???am i right?
