Question Security System Problems

I was wondering if anyone out there might have experienced this same problem? I have a 2006 Heritage with the Harley Factory Security System with a key fob. The other day I was doing some work on the bike so I was taking short rides. A couple of minutes into the ride the battery light and the check engine light would come on at the same time. When I checked the code it was for the security system. When I was riding the bike I did not have my keys and key fob with me. So I then put the keys in my pocket, went for additional rides, and the lights never came on again. Does the security system receive a signal from the key fob like the new computer chipped keys and if it is not by the bike when you ride it throws a security code? I have never heard of this but as long as I have my keys in my pocket it does not act up.

Does your fob have a push button in the center?

Yes it has a push button. But it seems that wasn't what was wrong, at least for the battery light coming on. The electrical connector for the voltage regulator was loose and would short out and cause the system to stop charging. But the fault code for the security system probably was the key fob.

The battery also tested as having a bad cell. So it is hard telling what was really causing the problems. Perhaps all of them together.
