20K service question
Ok I am thinking of doing the service myself, I am new to working on the bike myself but have the manual and plenty of people I can call for help if needed, I am getting a 260 pc mechanics tool set (since my tools were hand me downs and not all there etc etc anyways) I am wondering outside of that kit what other tools are a must have before starting this service myself...
torx? will I absolutly need a motorcycle jack/stand for this? anything else you can think of.
Thank you very much in advance for any tips

The service manual will tell you all the tools you'll need. Depending on the job, it could be different tools. I'd highly recommend a motorcycle jack. There are some things I just couldnt see doing without one. You may be interested in the Fix My Hog DVD's. I think the website is www.fixmyhog.com
Good luck.
Good luck.
Difficult to say since we don't know what's included in your 260pc tool kit. I second the motion for the jack. Much easier to do some of the maintenance either now or that which is to come. Torx are needed but your kit may have them.
greasegun, torque wrenches in inch pds and ft pds. You can get them cheap from Harbor Freight.
Always torque all nuts and screws to specs. Always torque all nuts and screws to specs.
Belt tension tool from HD for checking drive belt.
Some t-handle allens and a recessed 11/16 box wrench are good for adjusting the clutch but not necessary.
I'd had a jack (J&S) from day 1 so I can't imagine not having one. Suppose in a pinch you could get by.
Hand impact tool is good to have for stuck bolts. I've read of alot of horror stories about frozen bolts and screws that get broke off so whenever I have a questionable bolt or screw I give it a couple shots with the impact tool. So far so good. It's important to always use the correct size allens and torx and always seat them all the way. Even if you have to tap them a bit.
Just did my 10k. Time consuming but all in all it went well and I saved myself about 5 bills.
