Yes I am embarrassed for this post and the situation I am now in. I have hooker long rebels with clamp leak on front pipe. I over tightened harley clamps I bought cause they told me there wasn't a torque spec for them...just tighten the heck out of them. Local indy told me it is impossibe to seal pipes if clamp was over tightened and if crimped the pipe. I CAN'T SEAL with permatex ultra cause I CANT GET BETWEEN SHIELD AND PIPE BECAUSE PIPE AND SHIELD ARE ONE PIECE. I can't tape because clamp won't fit over tape.
Please understand the WHOLE PROBLEM aside from me is the shield being one piece with pipe. Can't assess the entire seam where clamp is.
That being the case do I take this as school of hard knocks experience and start saving for new pipes? At least pipes were only 200.
Thank you to all.
Qckfr - I feel your pain. I have the same leak on my TroubleMakers (appropriate name). I put on some new clamps but still have the leak -although not as bad. I haven't gotten around to taking them off again to put the Ultra Copper on them, but here is what i was going to try: Take the muffler clamp off and the other heat shield clamps and pull out the header pipe as far as you can and twist it as far as you can as well. Then, put the ultra copper on the pipe as far around as you can twist the pipe back to it's normal position. I might bend a wire to serve as an applicator to try and get around the muffler all the way. It might be worth one more try!
when i was much younger i raced cars and i used muffler wrap. it was at the time made of asbestos(that explains a few things) but i see they still have it. it is like gause and you wrap it and then wet it. forms like a plaster cast, by the way how much for the used hookers?
