Default Question about Rust

I hope someone can shed some light on this for me. My Son In Law has an 07 Softail Classic, which for most of the winter has been garaged (he's been on TDY for the last 2 1/2 months). Last night he tells me there is rust coming out of the forks near the lower part and near the lower "triple tree". He also said that the chrome spokes are rusting where they go into the wheels.

Any ideas? Thanks.

not fully understanding Ur ?. If it looks like rust then it probably is.
the TT could be moisture inside the bearing leaking onto the frame, but that could be because of lack of lube,
the spokes is from lack of protection during storage in moist area.
clean the spokes the best U can and then grease the TT them go from there.

that happens quite often if it wasn't prepped for the winter to protect it from the elements

S.O.S. pads will remove rust off of chrome with no scratching, but like someone said above if you live in a moist climate area and without some kind of preventative measure, it will happen every time.

Thanks guys. We live in Washington State. It must have been a storage issue because the winter it spent in my garage there were no issues (my garage has no special weather proofing or anything but it is only about 6 years old). I also have an 04 Deuce that has been sitting all winter and had no issues with that one.

Thanks again. I do appreciate it

Just clean it up and remember to get some spray wax on it because it will flow into tight spaces better than paste wax.
If you have guns around the house you can do what I do and spray some gun cleaning oil (I use G-96) on the fork tubes. Gun oil cleaners can easily get the stuck on bug parts off and do double duty by leaving a protective film behind to protect the bare metal from moisture.
