Default Windshield for my 07 Softail Deluxe

I want to purchase a windshield for my 07 softail deluxe, but I'm not sure if I should get the standard height clear item 57140-05 or the low profile smoked item 57141-05. I'm 5' 8" and I'm thinking the low profile is better for me, because I heard that you are supposed to look over the windshield especially with it being a smoked windshield. Does anybody know if the smoked windshield for the softail deluxe is lightly smoked or dark, and also if anybody my size has one installed on their bike? I would appreciate any feedback!

Thanks,
jjarbou

I'd suggest the low profile. I've got the standard, and it's at forehead level with me, and I'm ~5-11. I wish I had bought the lower one.

I'd go with the taller one... then have it cut down to fit you. just about any glass shop can do it for about $25.00, or you can do it yourself - there have been several threads on cutting windshields. a search will turn them up

My wife has the Nostalgic low smoked on her Deluxe and likes it alot. FYI, the top of the windshield is 13 3/8" above the top of the handlebar clamp. The tinting is barely noticible.

She's 5'6" and it's a bit low for her according to the tip of nose school of thought but she has no complaints. I have the standard height on my Heritage and cut 3/4" off it which makes it perfect for me.

I have the smoked low. If I sit up really straight I can see over (I'm 5'7"). When I'm riding I look through it about 2" down from the top.

The tint is almost non-existent.

Definately low profile. The smoke is only noticable if you have it next to a clear one. My buddy has the standard on his deluxe, he's about 5'8" and he has to look through it. I'm 6'1" and I look through it in a relaxed position. We're going to try cutting it down before he purchases the new low profile.

Does anybody know if the top of the windshield should be below or above eye level, is it better to look through the windshield or above it?

It's a matter of preference. Some people like looking through it, and the protection that provides. I don't really care for looking through it, because the slight bends at the sides do create a small amount of distortion.

I'm 5'8' also and have the standard on my Deluxe. I didn't like the idea of looking through the windshield, but I've gotten used to it on this and a previous bike. I don't even notice anymore that I'm looking through it.

Thanks everyone for all your input! I think I'm gonna go with the low profile smoked windshield, but first I'll measure 13 3/8" above the top of the handlebar clamp like jimmers1817 said! I have a rider backrest so I gotta take that into consideration as well!
