Are you anticipating having to get new cables?

Nope.

I put a set of Magnum chromites on the bike a few months ago and ordered them all a bit long as I anticipated doing a wider bar.

So my though was 2.5" rise vs 7" rise

31" wide Vs 35" wide.

10" of pullback vs 10" of pullback.

I'm thinking I'm all good!

Kool, thats where the bulk of my work was on my bar swap.

So as for advise on your bar swap. My biggest PITA was split between the tank removal and feeding the internal wires.

Run the tank almost empty prior to removing it. Clamp one side, while you drain the other, see if you can't siphon most first. I ended up with a half gallon of gas on my floor and down the front of the bike.

To remove the pins from the connectors I used a safety pin from the wifes sewing kit. Worked great, first one took about 3 minutes and the others took 3 seconds each. There is a bit of a trick to it, like picking a lock.

I used a dremel to smooth the edges of my holes in the bar. Didn't do it the first time and chewed up the protective sheathing and one of the wires isulated cover. The second attempt also had generous amounts of hand soap to help slip it thru the bars. Used Floral wire to pull them thru.

There is a wireing diagram at the back of your manual that give you the colors and what slots they go in the connectors. If you look real close at the side of the connectors there are numbers so you can sort out how they go back in. I would make a diagram first with wire colors and a way for you to tell which end is up in the diagram. My manual had 'Black' listed twice as a wire color, but it was really Black/Red & Black. So I was glad I made the diagram.

Anyways good luck on the bar swap.

Dammit Zach.

Reading that just made me dread this bar swap. Between the gassy garage floor and the floral wire I started shaking me head....

I dig the beachies on yer' Bones.

That chit is sah-weet!!!

No go put a tank shifter on that rolling nostalgic tribuite to days gone by....That are now suddenly back!!!

Ahh, I am just telling you about the crap, little sweat and a few choice words make me appreciate the bars that much more. No harm in trying to unbolt the tank and lift it enough with the cross over still attached, to unclip the switch connectors. I think I could have done it with mine, and another guy on here tried it and was unsuccessful. Slide a spacer of some sort in between the back bone of the bike frame and the tank, I think it might work and it will save the tank drain head ache I had. Those fat bars might feed wire better than mine did so there... your almost done!

Gee Thanks Zach I'm feeling better about it already!!

I may see if I can convince a buddy who works at the local dealer to do it in his garage for me for $50 bucks.....

Just cant trust his greasy pawed tool swinging *** around my flawless paint and gleaming chrome.
