Default Bar change advice needed....

I realize most of the "FXST Bike Crew" will find these bars bordering on silly and just plain wierd.

But I think its gonna work. This is the only beach style bar I have ever seen with integrated risers in the fat bar style. Matter of fact I havent ever seen a set of beach bars with integrated risers period!

So my plan is these crazy beach bars with either an LA Jockey or La Briola? Jockey shifter.

Now these bars strike a good balance between the integrated riser drag style bar that seems so prevelant with a beach bar bend. But really Beach bars on a Night Train is Purty fvckin' wierd.

But I'm thinking with the integrated risers, the fat bar "Look" and the jockey it will all work together and finalize my mods on this bike.(Yeah Right).

So I bought em. Got em durty-Durty cheap (List $269.95...Me $59.00 plus shippin' brand new) cuz' they were too creepy for anyone but me to buy!!

But heres the real query.

Going from 7" risers on my current Street Slammerz to 2.5" risers,
31" to 35" wide, 10' Total pullback to what seems to be 10" total pullback on the slammers as well if I measure the imaginary line between the bar ends and the center of the bar above the triple tree....

Now I like wrenchin' and fiddling with my bike but I do want to do this correctly.

Do I simply cut all the wires at the base of my current bars and inline splice and solder the wires back together after running them through my new bars as they seemingly should have the same wire lenghts?

Do I buy some kit and take off my tank and go through the whole routine of pulling each wire out of its respective plug and somehow get then all plugged back in correctly with new metal ends?

Any advice would be helpful as this is my first bar swap.

La jockey is Labriola. Go for the kit, well made, almost OEM. If your street slammers are internally wired, I bet you will have enough slack in the wiring to run it through those.

They are internally wired.

Is cutting and splicing acceptable or should I be pulling the dash, tank and trying to take apart the connectors themselves?

I recommend pulling the tank off and disconnecting the pins. It's worth the effort.

Check out this thread. It's on a Dyna, but pretty much the same.

This is how I did it. Nott that difficult. Just a little more time and careful of the paint. Cover your front fender to protect it....

take the tank off and take the pins out of the connector and do it right.

you don't need to pull the tank, just unbolt it, and pull the tank back. Put some rags over the rocker covers, so the hose clamps won't scratch them. Unplug the wires from the connectors, feed the wire through and plug them back in. The deutsch connectors are easy to work with.

Fvck....No easy way out with the ghetto splice job I see.

My Low profile console is hellish to get back on once removed.

Suppose I better git er done right. I thought so...Just had a glimmer of easy splicers hope?

I'm feeling good about the beach/jockey combo as I think it will fit this bike well.
