Why solid mount and rubber mounted HD engines????

Default Why solid mount and rubber mounted HD engines????
I have always wondered why Harley makes both type engines with solid mount going in Softtails and rubber mounts on the touring. Seems like it would make sense to have one or the other.

Touring frames are a lot bigger, so they can fit the rubber mounts in no problem. The rubber costs less and weighs less than the counterbalance used in Softails and Dynas.

I think some Harley riders love the shake and We Softail riders enjoy a smooth ride, am I correct?

i love how smooth my ol girl feels. but i really wish my bike would sit and shake like that. just looks mean to me

I like a little "shake" myself, but Xuallus is right, the rubber mounted motors are not balanced and need the rubber mounts to quite down the shake. It is a cheaper method, but I guess it's hard to use in the smaller framed bikes.

I prefer the solid mounts too. Of course, we may be a little biased. :-D

Well, 04 and up Sportsters are rubber mounted.

my bad, I thought dynas had a 96B

goes to show how much time I spend "downstairs" in the dyna forum
