Default Stage 1

Hi I have a stage 1 screaming eagle air filter and took the football air cleaner cover off and the bike, an 01 fatboy seems to have a lot more pep. Am I imagining this?

Carbed or EFI?

Motors like to run a wee bit "Angrier" when they go from struggling to breathe through a restrictive element to able to breathe and suck in lots of air. You are not imagining it.

Pull a plug and see what color it is before you get to crazy. White = No Good.

You should be cool. I put a high flow filter on my old Evo Heritage without any issues but I put in a new set of plugs and did a plug chop test to make sure it wasnt lean....

Dont try and add pipes and filter without rejetting. Just filter you should be OK.

Just make sure you aint too lean via checking those plugs.

Edit: You did put on just the SE high flow filter right???

Remember more air enters needs more fuel to go with it. I would rather be rich and safe than lean and on the edge. Make sure you check your plug coloration and maybe ask your local dealer if they have been bumping the jets when just doing the stage 1 filter without pipes. Lean = Hot. Hot = Bad.

Are the original owner? Did you put the pipes on the bike? What jets are in it now?

If its jetted bone stock and you put the SE filter and the Big Radius on you will run lean as heck and quite possibly blow or severly damage your motor.

If you arent the first owner and bought it with the pipes its probably already jetted fatter.

I would address the jetting prior to riding the bike if it were mine and I liked it

You are gold. Its already stage 1 jetted. Thats why it runs better with the SE airfilter. Its jetted to be ran like that!

Now break bread with a photo Rick so we can see this Fat Beast of yens.
