Default Purpose of floorboards?

Just looking for a little background on the floorboards on the larger bikes. Are they for safety, comfort, looks?

Never riden with floorbaords and am just curious.

Thanks.

They are there to put small items on when you park and are getting things out of your bags etc to take into bike night. You can put your smokes, keys and other small items on the boards while you are checking yourself in the mirror to make sure you look tough. The boards are better than the seat for doing this as seats are smooth and stuff can slide off due to the lean angle of the bike when it's on the Jiffy stand. Boards have rubber and hold items in place better.

Comfort and Looks mostly. You can move your feet around a lot more with boards. Vibration isn't so concentrated as on pegs.

I've got pegs on my Sporty and boards on the Deluxe... I actually like the pegs, but on longer rides (out of the city), the boards are soooo much nicer. Your feet really do feel the vibrations after a while.
