Original owner of a 2000 Deuce. A few months ago I bought a 105th Anniversary Road Glide.

Both Deuce and RG are wonderful bikes, and very different from each other.

For two-up, long distance touring, nothing is better than the RG. I've ridden my Deuce on 2,500 mile rides. I've got over 50,000 miles on my screaming eagle deuce. But the next time I go on a 2,500 mile ride, it will be on the RG, not the Deuce!

My Deuce is instead now my choice for one-up, short distance, urban traffic, riding to work, putting around. IOW, cruzing. I just installed a Corbin solo on my Deuce, replacing the big Corbin touring saddle. The Deuce should be a one-up bike, with a one-up saddle. Wife has a Dyna, so me having a one-up bike is not a problem, so long as I also have a two-up for when she wants to be on the back.

Which bike is better depends on wants and needs. If you are fortunate, have both a RG and a Deuce. If not, then you have to choose.

I will keep my Deuce for a long, long time. Will never sell it. I have a 06 and the customization part never seems to end. I now know what HD stands for... It means hundred dollars, everything you buy is always totaled over a hundred dollars....

Back problems. Same here.
Alternative to replacing the Deuce by buying a new bike to resolve a back problem include
1. get bars with greater pullback.
2. get a saddle with a backrest.
3. get a Road Glide for the long distance rides, and also keep the Deuce

I did all three above. Back feels fine now.

I currently have an 2003 in my garage. I was lucky enought to borrow it of a mate and am realy strugglig to give it back. I did about 500km on the weekend and found it a real pleasure to ride. However, my wife hated it. I ended up dropping her at a train station for the last 80km of the ride as the pillion seating (stock seat) is not exactly pillion friendly.

If you are looking for a bar hopper or around town cruiser I think it would be perfect. If you wish to remain with your beloved or would like to do a few more miles outside of town, it would definitely require some bucks to set it up (bags, seat, screen...etc)...All I can say is I am in love!
