Default Deuce Keeper

My '05 carbed is simply a classic big Road Bike without bags and with a really nice custom sense of style. Priorities with me were effortless 300 mile rides, great brakes, solid stability at 100mph and for its weight an ability to toss it around in the hills and corners.

I am 6 foot and extended pegs were a must. A four inch extension of the forks coupled with 3 degree neck rake cups gave it a great hot rod stance and more than enough extra cornering clearance. Of course the added rake and trail and wheelbase make it steady as a rock at 100 and along with new Metzlers she tracks like rails in the corners. I went through the front end, the neck and wheel bearings and did several alignments to be sure the bike points straight with no shakes.

The fourth seat I bought did the trick. Harley Sundowner. Granted this seat is at least as large as a Police saddle but with the slightly stretched length the styling looks fine nevertheless. The seat, pegs and some new Z-bars have all eliminated "dead fingers and wrist pain" and increased the feeling of control beyond my wildest hopes.

For a Big Bike this Deuce is just as satisfying as my spare---a 2007 Triumph Bonnevill T100. The Deuce is the most satisfying Big Heavy Bike I have ever owned. And I have been riding Harleys since 1964.

Those that don't like the Deuce are entitled to their opinions. But I really have to question why they ride a Harley if they can't feel the love for this chromed out platform. There is just so much to like I am consindering this one a keeper. When I finally wear out new cams, heads and jugs I will either swap in an S and S or turn it into a Trike. I can see this bike easily lasting 100,000 miles and until I hang up my spurs.

Deuces seem to keep their value. I have seen a few of them on Craigslist and man they are kind of pricey for the year model and mileage on them. If you can get your hands on one by all means snag it. This is the predecessor of the Rocker. They should have kept the Deuce and just came out with the 240 back tire on that with a few different mods. I would have been really ok with that as well.

They were over $16k new. That's almost in the range of a bottom end touring glide model. My biggest gripe with the Rocker is the stock seat. It stick up high and it's somewhat flat so it's like you're sitting more on top of the bike rather than in it with the deuce/blackline/night train type softails with a low profile seat and I hate sitting on top of a bike; it always feels like the center of gravity is just way to high at that point.

I want to replace my solid rear wheel with a spoked one to match the front.

Whats a good option? Can I go slightly wider than stock? My bike is basically stock still, but I want to lower it with the Progressive-Suspension-422-4037C kit and give it a cleaner look with the new wheel.

Ideas?

I'm in the same boat, i want an 18x5.5. Problem is I haven't found a clear answer as to weather or not I'd need to change out my belt/pulleys/spacers for the belt to clear the wider wheel, or if all that work only needs to be done if I run a 200mm on that wheel. I've got a 180mm on my stock wheel which I had chromed, and that alone made a world of difference appearance wise to the rear end. I've got a lot of other things I'd like to do to the bike in the $600-$1000 range well before I'd spend it on one wheel.
