Default Screamin Eagle II popping.

I have a 2001 FXSTDI with Screamin Eagle II pipes. When I decelerate to shift gears I get a serious of “pops” that can be considered “cool” to some and “annoying” to others. I’m in the middle, I can tolerate it and get used to it but if I can find a solution I’ll take it. I took it up to a locale motorcycle shop and they said that since its fuel injected there’s nothing they can do. They said my only choice is to take it up to our HD dealer and have them recalibrate it. Before I do that I thought I’d ask here to see if there are any other ideas or options or opinions. I read here every day but rarely post anything. thanks

Do a search for decel pop and you will finds lots of information, some posts from me too. You didn’t state what kind of fuel management you have, but in most cases adding fuel at the 0 throttle and sometimes 2 percent throttle will reduce decel popping which is quite common with free-flow AC and pipes.

Please ignore my ignorance but am I safe in assuming the "popping" is fuel burning in the pipes? Also, is there anything wrong with a bike "popping"? Since removing the beffles and getting mine dyno'd I have lots of popping on decel too. I actually like this sound but if this is a sign of something wrong that wouldnt be good.

Get a power commander and you can most likely tune the pops out. It could be air leaks causing it, or unburned fuel in the exhaust. Your shop sucks if they said they cannot help. I can't believe they did not try to sell you a screaming eagle race tuner. Wow. Find a new shop too.

Power commanders aren't the only option you have though. There is the SERT, SEST, TTS and others. The best bet is to find a tuner that you trust and find out what they are most comfortable tuning. Although I have tuned tons of Power Commanders, they are not my first choice, I definately prefer the SEST and the SERT over it. For numerous reasons, the main one being that the tuner has more control over the others, not to mention that the Power Commander is an add on system, meaning that you install it on the bike and it stays on it, if you do some reading here you'll find allot of members that have had problems after a hard rain or after washing thier bikes. The SERT, SEST and TTS systems are only hooked up to your bike long enough to re-program the ECM, once the ECM is programmed the unit is removed and set aside.
