i have had my harley windshield on for 34000 miles and it workd great. i am 6ft. i have seen a company the makes one with a curved top that throws the wind up and over you. i was told they work very well.

Do what I do and leave it in the basement. I'm not kidding.

P.S. Anyone interested in a H-D quick release windshield in perfect condition that fits my 06 dyna?

P.P.S. I assembled the clamps and the bolts on mine were fine.

I am 6'3....cut my windshield down to about chin level. My buffeting was coming from under...not over the windshield.

I finally added the wind deflectors and life is good.

I was using a HD Low Profile Tinted windshield (17" tall from the headlight) with no buffeting . Im 6"3 with a C & C Seat that lowers me and moves me back about 1.5 in.

I agree tha HD Hardware is cheap , a bolt and rubber grommet. I changed to the Memphis Shades hardware ( poly bushing with stainless bolts and spacers) IIMO looks better and better made. Then I got both a MS Batwing Fairing (for the long rides) and a MS Rio Sport Shield ( I think it 15 wide by 17 tall) works well up to about 70 mph then some buffeting but not bad. The best is I can go from no shield to windshield to fairing in a minute with no tools.

If you have the MS Hardware already and want the best protection in their windshield go to the Memphis Fats in at least a 19 " tall and you can always trim it.

This thread does more than discuss the windshield problem----it EXPOSES the prices us Canadians pay for HD parts, all parts come thru Deeley and then the dealer plus taxes.

06 Dyna Rotor and Stator---Canadian $500.00,-----bought from US less than $300.00 CDN all in.
Canadian prices went up 25% last Dec 16

I can't belive that their R & D dept. doesn't pick-up on this stuff...... it's garbage without the "lowers" you guys mention.... I'll check their website right now to see what they offer...... JR

Are you sure they gave you the right mounting kit? It seems like it's too late now, but double check the hardware kit to make sure it's the one for Fatboy's without the accessory lamp kit (unless you've added the lamps since your sig pic was taken).

FWIW - I picked up a stock detachable windshield for my FLSTI on ebay for $89 and the mounting kit was about $40 from the dealer.

I have a quick detachable windshield on my FB and have no problems with the mounting. I cut my windshield down 2.5 inches so I could see over it and only get minor buffeting around 80mph.

I paid $271 back in 2007 for PN58243-95.

Im 6-4 also. Wearing no helmet made if feel great and no real buffeting problem. Check your helment. Mine had a visor on it that came off, when I ride with a windshield, I take the visor off, and dont get as bad buffer anymore.

being tall sucks for windshields!!

I have only used my windshield twice so far in two years though, so no biggie deal. Got it for $100 off Craigslist!

The dealer opened up 3 more windshield kits for me and they were all the same.... anyways, I returned it.

SO, I bought the Memphis Shades Rio-Grande Sportshield. Great mounting kit, but MAJOR buffeting. (I TRIED ALL ADJUTMENTS) MAJOR head-shake. I seriously could not ride the bike at all. I could not read road signs it was so bad. I have a head-ache from 1 minute of it. I creatively manufactured a piece of 1/8" aluminum and added 2.5 inches to the to top.... Problem still there. I then carefully trimmed 2 inches off the winshield.... still there. I trimmed another inch, then another, then another..... anyways, it's now a 10" stub, and still MAJOR BUFFETING. I'm almost 6'4" tall. Does anyone have any ideas? This windshield is going in the garbage...... WHAT CAN I DO? I need a windshield..... Unreal!

Thanks, JR

I have 06 fatboy with the HD king size windshield. I do not get any wind buffering, now. When I had the little visor on my helmet I got buffering. I think it was from below. I my top bolts were longer than yours. Why did you not just buy a couple of extra bolts. Hell, my dealer would of given those to me.
I would of tried the windshield without a helmet or with a full face helmet, just to check.
