My wife's bike has a windshild, my sister's bike has one too. Come to think about it, my mother's bike has a windshild also.

So then "aviator", I guess you saw what it was in response to? haha
You know, I was at a "Ride For Dad" registration gathering tonight (cancer fundraiser) and I could not find ONE SINGLE bike there without a windshield, so I don't think my desire for one is too unrealistic. I was just asking for a little help.... I can take a joke, but we're supposed to be on the same page here guys...... Hey "I CUT 1", that was super-funny, even I laughed. I have been riding the last 2 days with no windshield, and prefer it to the buffeting with the windshield attached. Still exploring my options....... JR

They are proprietary... they have little notches for the useless spring tabs that are included.... Thanks for all the great advice. The windshield that I have been chopping up all night is going in the garbage tomorrow. I'll be ordering another one that Memphis makes, jut not sure which one. I can't belive that their R & D dept. doesn't pick-up on this stuff...... it's garbage without the "lowers" you guys mention.... I'll check their website right now to see what they offer...... JR
I cut my shield this past winter, looked at all my tools and ended up using the roto Zip. It cut the Lexan like butter..then filed smooth...
[QUOTE=JR Ryder;5030598]Ya, As stated in my original posting, I DID return the HD windshield.... and the bolts are proprietary. They are not just "bolts", they are like grooved shafts. There are no longer ones. It's an engineering problem. I can't believe someone didn't have the common sense to see that they are too short. [COLOR="Red"]OH, I COULD have made them work, but with only 1-1/2 turns of "bite", it's asking for trouble.....

as a retired machine repairman, rule of thumb is the amount of depth of threads holding should be equal to or longer than the bolt Dia.. shorter like U say will not hold but likely strip, bad!! . not the strip some are used to...

Ya, I'm shocked..... seriously shocked that no technician or mechanic has ever brought it to their attention (well, maybe they have, but nothing has changed). There should be a technical-service-bulletin, or even a recall. All dealers should cease the sale immediately, and be given the proper mounting kits to put in each carton in their inventory. If this were in the medical industry, OMG, it would be on the front page of newspapers. There is NO WAY I'm the only one with this concern....
I know this in an old thread but my windshield kit had the same too short top bolts. They are still putting the same bolts in the kits. I used them to mount mine but im not happy. Its on there for now. I also thought of having a machine shop make the right length. O well sorry for bringing up this old post.
Just bought a www.ceebaileys.com windscreen... I am tall and as I get older like more and more windscreen between me and the elements... I added 4" to the height and 2" to the width... love it.
