Just returned a $619 (on sale) Harley windshield Part Number 57141-05 because the hardware kit was an absolute JOKE. The upper bolts (the ones that attach it to the forks) had LESS thread than the lower bolts, and I could only get 1-1/2 turns of bite. (bottom bolts were fine)... Stupid engineering!!! The dealer opened up 3 more windshield kits for me and they were all the same.... anyways, I returned it.
SO, I bought the Memphis Shades Rio-Grande Sportshield. Great mounting kit, but MAJOR buffeting. (I TRIED ALL ADJUTMENTS) MAJOR head-shake. I seriously could not ride the bike at all. I could not read road signs it was so bad. I have a head-ache from 1 minute of it. I creatively manufactured a piece of 1/8" aluminum and added 2.5 inches to the to top.... Problem still there. I then carefully trimmed 2 inches off the winshield.... still there. I trimmed another inch, then another, then another..... anyways, it's now a 10" stub, and still MAJOR BUFFETING. I'm almost 6'4" tall. Does anyone have any ideas? This windshield is going in the garbage...... WHAT CAN I DO? I need a windshield..... Unreal!

That windshield is $399 msrp, where do you come up with your figures?
I was going to ask if it was gold plated. Odd there's no bolt on windshield for a new fatboy. I got one for the wife's Deluxe and it was a piece of cake to put on.

Cut from the 2008 HD accessories manual. A good bit of head buffeting comes from the air flowing under the windshield & catching your helmet as it comes up and over. Try a set of wind deflectors. I've used them before and they make a big difference with the amount of wind hitting you even with a windshield. Since you've cut on the windshield so much you'll probably have to look for a replacement. The windshield on mine is the Nostalgic low profile smoked. I'm 6'1 and if I sit relaxed on the bike I still look over it while riding. I still get a good bit of wind but not nearly as much as without it. No buffeting though.

It WOULD be a piece of cake if the upper bolts were longer. It's a stupid hardware kit. The dealer agreed with me. We went out into the parking lot with wrenches and he agreed 100%. Also took the one off of their showroom FatBoy... same thing.... upper bolts BARELY grab. Not enough thread....
Anyhow, $619 Canadian, with our PST and GST taxes. That was with 10% off. Seriously, the Memphis was only about $300. The Memphis mounting kit is great, but it was such bad buffeting tonight, I had to leave my winshield at my office about 15 minutes from my house. I plan on doing some touring, that's why I want it. Also, the bugs are like rain up here at this time of year.....
