Default Ness Drop Kit BLOWS!!!!

Well i've had the Arlen Ness dampners 41mm on the front end of my ride for about a couple of months now. And let me tell you they ride like SH*T!!! I get bottom outs on almost every little bump on the road. I do have SE heavy fork oil in to. I was riding about 15mph on a back road when i hit some bumps and my front end felt terrible. My front tire was actully skipping along with slamming(bottoming out). Good thing i wasn't goen 45mph or i would have been sitting on my *** in a ditch S.O.L.. So im gonna take out those crappy dampners and put in Progressive drop-ins(which i just purchased today). I hope that this will cure my bottom outs. I've asked several people about this kit and they all tell me good things about it. So we'll see? So all you guys with those Progressive kits, how do you like them? Feedback would be great...TY

My progressive kit (Didnt really drop in) is badazz. The forks with the kit and heavy oil are worlds better than stock. I live and ride in Colorado. Our roads are bad. Big potholes, cracks, sand, rocks, its bad. The progressives eat that road trash up.

My el-cheapo bolt kit on the back on the other hand? Not so stellar.

I will add that the stock shocks combined with a lowering bolt kit have a sweet spot though. You need to make small adjustments ride, small adjuist and ride. There is an area in the stroke of the stock rear shocks that is very plush and an area that is harsh and nasty.

Buy the progressive kit. It works. Drop in? OK but I cant say pulling forks and everything attached to em is very drop in!!

I have the Ness kit in the front of my Train and have none of the issues that you have.

What a joke!!!! I just called Arlen Ness and told them about my problem and they told me that about 1 in 100 bikes have this problem and my ride is one of these problem bikes i guess. They then told me to put heavy weight fork oil in and i told them i had it in already. Then silence on the phone and then they swithced me to another tech which told me to cut PVC pipe from Home Depot at 1" pieces and permanetly install them on top of my springs. Any one ever heard of this? I wonder if i call progressive will they tell me that 1 in 100 of thier springs fail in bikes? I hope not?...Good Luck to all you guys with those piece of crap ness dampners. And yes they are CRAP!!!

Progressive kit came with two pieces of PVC pipe that the instructions tell you to cut to certain lenghts dependent on the amount of drop you are doing.....

Drop in only is drop in on non FL front ends. Just to let you know. Forks must be dismantled to take out you dampers anyway.

Well the front of my bike rides like those mini trucks we used to have back in the 80's. bouncing and slamming(bottom outs). Does the progressive perform like this? And yes im paying my indy to take out the ness dampners and put back in my stockers with the progressive kit.

When you start modifying your bike...this stuff happens.

There is something wrong with yours...because it isn't the norm....doesn't mean the Ness drop kit is junk.

**** happens. Fix it.

I am sure the regualar height dampers and the progressive shocks will ride better than that.

I love my Progressive drop-ins, and it's even better since I switched to SE heavy fork oil in them. I never bottomed out before, even on potholes or railroad tracks (and I tested it on all the spots I could think of) but it's a little firmer with the heavy oil. Just right, I'd say.

But I agree with Chaz and Harley Goodies on the "drop-in" claim. It's a bit more work than their video shows, but I didn't have to completely drop the fork tubes. I was able to lower them enough to get the springs in. It wasn't bad, but wasn't as quick and easy as I went into it thinking it would be. Still, it was easily done within a few hours.
