Default 200 swap

I was wondering if anyone could tell me, can i swap a rear swingarm and 200 tire from an 06 or newer softail to my 04 softail night train? Will everything bolt up or would it be easier to buy an aftermarket kit instead?

If I recall correctly, it will bolt up, but the brake caliper is different. On the 200 tires, the caliper unbolts from the caliper mount to facilitate tire changes. If you use the 04 caliper set up, you would have problems getting the caliper off and on the rotor. You also need the 06 up spacers, rim etc.

I really think the tranny offset frame mounting is very different on a 2006+?

I think there is more to your swap over than just the swingarm and wheel. I browse these forums alot. I have yet to see a single guy swap the factory 200 over to a pre-06 bike. Not that it cant be done but honestly I think the tranny offset is built into the frame and may be a big enough issue to make you swap not feasible.

But as far as I know if you pulled it off? You would be the pioneer!

Heartland kit a no go to facilitate your yearning for a fatter tire? I think they do a 180 kit? with a chain even to make it work?

I'm with Chaz, I looked long and hard at doing that swap. I got a lot of "it should work" sort of comments, and a few people that claimed to have done it, but no one had any pictures, or parts lists, or anything else.

Put a 160 on an 18" wheel and call it a day. It looks better than the 200 anyway.

PN for the 2008 Softail 'rearfork kit' is 47573-08 and is on all the softails in the line up save the Rocker and probably the CVO. Part number here seems to indicate it's new for 2008 along with splash gaurds, spacers and pivot shaft...

I believe the frames are different. I looked into doing it with my 06 and was told by the service dept that it couldn't be done.

It honestly does. No oversized cartoonish fenders, Sleek and smooth as the original design was meant to be. My 160 tire 18" rim combo is just perfect IMO. The tire fills the fender and the 18" rim will tuck if thats your thing. I looked at the two models side by side and it was clear which one looked better to "Me". So I found the newest 05' I possibly could and went to work on it....Then again I'm kinda into the vintage rat roddish look thing jockey shifters and wierd bars... Big fat *** rear tires are a styling cue No-No in that genre.
