Default Engine Install;Shop or DIY?

Hello all,
I am new to this forum, and forums in general, so bare with me. I have a 97 Fatboy that I am currently getting back up and running. The question I have is how hard is it to install a motor in one of these bad boys. The motor in question is a 114" Mid-USA powerhouse motor. My mechanical ability is OK, but no real wrenching time on sleds. Rode several, not too much besides general maintenance beyond that. Also what is the average going rate to get a motor installed, should I opt in that direction.
Thanks, Mike.

You answered your own question. Your mechanical ability is ok. Thats all you need. Take your time and you will be saving a ton of money doing it yourself. Get a service manual. All of your other stock parts have to hook up to that power house. Just follow the manual. Torque everything you do. Use loc-tight also. Good Luck and enjoy...Ray

You should be fine. Just take your time and don't get in a hurry. Make sure you follow the manual.

I'm just learning bikes, but I wrenched on and hot rodded cars for fun all of my younger years.

What's your enjoyment and patience level? With the right temperament, you can do anything and it seems like fun. Others, not so much.

If you think it would be fun, don't mind the time and don't give up when something doesn't go right, I say go for it.

There's no such thing as a question which someone on here can't answer, I promise you that. This is a great bunch.

Good luck.

Default Thanks all

Thank you all for your encouraging comments. I'll be tackling this one myself after all. More satisfaction that way.
