clunk noise when shifting?

Default clunk noise when shifting?
i notice when shifting i hear my gears kinda clunk, i mean not like bomb going off but still kinda loud. is this normal?

Welcome to the world of Harley. I have owned 5 Harleys now; all make that same clunk noise.

i kinda thought that since i had a 09 nightster and heard the same thing. thanks for the quick reply, have a good one.

Mine does the same thing, dealer told me it was normal.

Put redline shockproof heavy in it and it will quiet the clunk a bit.

Sometimes it's more of a KaPOW!!!, especially when downshifting. I know it's normal but what puzzles me is why does it only do it sometimes. And when you're least expecting. Buddy of mine who used to own a touring BMW and now owns an Ultra said the German engineered beamer clunked more.

Before downshiting, give the throttle a slight blip. When upshifting hit the gas, pull in the clutch, let the rpms drop a bit and upshift slowly.tch adjustments are also important to relieve the clunk.

Sounds like your downshifting from 6th to 1st at 70 mph. Mine clunks but sounds manly.
