I am new to HD scene and just picked up my first Harley. 2003 Night Train 100th anniversay. I am in love with the bike and can not stop riding. My first question is a stupid one but here goes. I would like to change out the air cleaner but want to maintain the emblem cover. What options if any do I have?
I guess I need to rephrase my question. I want to keep my original cover but change the stock air cleaner out. Does anyone know of any upgraded air cleaners that will accept my air cleaner cover or is it universal? For instance, if I upgraded to an HD Screamin Eagle stage 1
You will keep the same air cover if you upgrade, or replace it with a K&N. If you change the air filter you might as well complete the stage 1 upgrade. It will blue your pipes becuase a better air filter will allow your engine to breathe more (get more air) and your fuel/air mixture will need adjusting. A complete stage 1 takes care of this.
You can pick up a K&N filter that will fit right into your stock air cleaner cover. You won't need to rejet unless you also change out the pipes. You can also take a 3/4" hole saw and drill four or five holes in the plastic part of the cover to allow the carb to get more air. The K&N filter will cost you about $70 but it is well worth it as it will be the last filter you buy for the bike because it is washable.
