Default Lowering bolt install issue

Well I ripped my air shocks and compressor, that were on the bike when I bought it, out yesterday and put the stock shocks back on. Disappointment but glad to get rid of the pain in the a$$ things. We but the lowering bolts on the stock shocks but after hours of trying in a 95* garage we just couldn't get the shock to go in and the longer bolt to fit to the hole. We came to the conclusion that you must need a tool to compress the shock, slide it in place, bolt everything on, and take the tool off of the shock. Does this sound correct and how would get such a tool?

Mine slid right in. Try removing the grommets that the stud sits in on the frame cross member. You will have to slide the back one on the stud first.
Also, jack up the back wheel as far as it will go, that should give you all the room you need.

First off you can send the air shocks and the comp. to me... lol

Should be just like any stock shocks... You adjust the ht after it on the ground... So when you install them the adjustment nut is all the way back with the washer and bushing, stick the stud through the cross plate then bolt up the back.

Way don't you like the air shocks?

Carmell RKC, that's exactly the way I tried to install them. I tried everything possible but no way they're going in without compressing them to make them smaller. I guess that's not the correct way to install stock shocks with the correct lowering bolts. I'm contacting the distributer tomorrow to be sure I've got the right bolts for my bike.
Story808, I'll be more then happy to sell them to you. the compressor is great, there is a slow leak someplace that I could never find. thanks

I don't know how you are supporting the bike but if the rear wheel is in the air then there is a lot of play in the rear shock mount and you may need to move this up and down to install. I personally had the rear wheel off my bike the last time I did it so it was a snap to move the rear mount.

Screw the nut all the way towards the shock, put through the front hole all the way and you should be able to get the rear bolt started. Sounds like you have the bike on a jack with the rear wheel drooping which brings the rear mount forward quite a bit if I recall correctly. Try putting a small floor jack under the rear tire and jacking it up slightly.

Eazy Peazy.

When i changed out my bolts on stock shocks they were a snap to get out. But let me tell you getting that damm shock back in was a pain in the A$$. I would say this mod was a headache. Just keep messing with it. It's a tight fit but they do slide in. Make sure that wheel is off the ground. The left side went into place with no problems but that right side was BS!!!

Anyone got pics of how to install the lowering bolts themselves.
