Default Pics and diagram please

Reino,

A diagram for that bracket would be great, and pictures if possible. You have managed to pull off what I have been wanting to do for a while now with that solo bag.

By the way, I think your scoot would look outstanding with some beach bars.

First I want to say this is the least I can do. This site is great and there is nothing but great people here. I have learned a lot and gotten a lot of great ideas. Im just honored I have actually done something others are interested in so here goes nothing.

Ok, for those of you wanting pics of the bag here they are. Im not going to add the larger pics, they take up too much space, but here is my flickr page with the pics if you want larger pics: http://www.flickr.com/photos/30748271@N04/

All I did was go down to Lowes and get a piece of steel (16ga I believe). The sheet of steel measured about 12" x 18" and was about $10-15. I used a piece of opened manila envelope to make a template. If you have a inspection plate on your bike youll probably recognize the piece that actually bolts to the bike. I used the inspection plate as a template and traced it then traced the back of the bag as It was actually attached where the bag is now. I have to move the inspection plate. Each bag you use will obviously be different. I cut the steel so its just inside the bag so it cant be seen as easily. I use and recommend the HOG Deluxe bag (and no I dont know the people but they are very helpful and have quality bags). After making the template and fitting it to the bike several times I finally cut the steel. After holding the steel up to the bag I figured out where the bracket that holds the grommet would have to be. This was cut and I believe the inside diameter of the grommet was 5/8". This was also from Lowes for $1.50. Just make sure it will fit over the axel adjustor nut easily but snuggly. I then welded the bracket for the grommet, which I doubled the16 ga steel to make. After welding the grommet bracket to the bag I test fitted it again. I then drilled 5 holes through the back of the plate and into the bag. You can use more holes but i figured 5 would be enough. Then I went down to the local powder coating place and they hooked me up with some nice powder coating. The girl was pretty hot there too. I then attached the bag to the bracket and used stainless steel bolts, washers and nuts. Youll see I also added acorn nuts to the back of the nuts. I figured this might look better but Im beginning to think I should of just gotten shorted bolts and put the acorn nuts on with locktite but oh well.

Anyways here are the pics.

This is the back of the Bag. I added a tape to give you an idea of the size. Here is the best shot how the bag bolts to the bike. Through the hole to the right goes the passenger peg bolt.

This is the piece that goes around the axle adjustor nut. Again the grommet is about 5/8" I believe. You can also see my 5 nuts and acorn nuts with the washers. That little piece of rubber below the top right bolt is a piece of rubber, I believe its used for chair bottoms. The bracket doesnt touch the swingarm but just incase it gets too close this piece should protect the swingarm.

This view is from the back of the bike looking forward. To put the bag onto the bike all you have to do is carefully put the rubber grommet over the axle adjustor nut. This keeps the back of the bag from going up/down and in/out.

Fist, hush about the bike being dirty, its just dust (I do live on a dirt road). This is where the bag bolts the the bike, the only bolt that attaches the bag to the bike. The passenger peg bolt goes through the passenger peg bracket, through the bag and finally into the bike. This also keeps the front of the bag from moving whild the rubber grommet keeps the back of the bag from moving. Most dont like the idea of only having one bolt but I have never had any probelms and its actually pretty snug and secure.

And this is what it should look like.

If you have any other questions let me know. Im no master welder. My father is teaching me and this is actually the first piece I have made that has a use. If I were to change anything I would only take the bike when I take it to be coated. As you can see its not a very close match, but then again you cant see much of it, unless you look through the rear wheel to see the back of the bracket.

If anyone on here has any questions let me know. I really cant give you measurements as every bag is different, unless you have the same bag I have. I can tell you this though, to make the whole braket you can do it for less then $20, if you spray it. I choose to have it powder coated which cost me $40 for a grand total of about $55. Too me it was worth the difference.

Good Luck and enjoy.

And thanks again for all the compliments. I thought about beach bars but just not my style. I think I will be going with the apes as soon as I can come up with the coin.
