I agree that the HD windscreen gives you buffeting at 60+ MPH. However the buffeting is coming from below the thing. The wind is running up your legs. I ride solo most of the time and on the interstate I use the rear pegs. Problem solved. I know this sounds like bunk. But just try it some time. Around 60 and below it's not an issue. And from the number of bugs I collect on the windscreen, I'll put up with it most of the time. But I also ride without a screen at times.
As bags go. The Xbone bags are well made. If you want bigger bags, go for it. But I use mine with a quick detach kit and they are good bags. There are of course bags which are better made. But they are higher priced. I always used Auburn Leather bags in the past and they are very well made. As are Boss bags.
I skipped the windshield from the beginning. Just my opinion, but I just don't like the look on a Bones. From what I read here in this thread, sounds like I made the right choice. I have ridden a couple Glides and the buffeting pretty much sucked. Honestly, the wind hitting me at highway speeds doesn't really bother me anyway.
I do have the bags from HD for mine. Again, I agree with the majority. They are well made, but over priced, and have a small opening. I think the swingarm bags look good too, but I do like the extra room I have with saddle bags. A sweatshirt, sometimes a leather jacket, lunch for work, and a couple little things just won't fit in a swingarm bag. So really, I think it comes down to what works for you. I too have the removable docking hardware, makes it nice when ya wanna clean up the bike.
Just put the tall screen on Saturday and rode Sunday. Brains got scrambled. I'm going to try the compact, low screen to see if it's any better.
Scottiedawg and cammy5477, do you have the low or high screen?
I too am 6'4" and have the tall screen. Was thinking about trying the shorter screen, but I've heard the buffeting comes from the wind from below the windshield? I've ridden the wifes deluxe, shorter and wider shield, buffeting not as bad. I don't know anymore.... May never use it again?
ive heard it comes from below also but there aint really anything to stop it is there. just going to sell it looks better off anyway.
cant believe harley sell parts that are this ***** for the money they charge every part they sell should be over designed and work flawlessly.

I don't know about the wind coming from below. When I feel the buffeting I put my hand up to the top of my head where I feel it and move my hand in the wind stream. It is coming from the top of the wind screen not below. At least for me. I was thinking of cutting this one down a bit or trying the shorter one but on long rides on the highway I sure like not having the wind pushing me back in the bike. My hands are more relaxed and I don't feel so spent when I get there.
My Cross Bones had the short shield on it when I bought it. I'm 6'2" and I haven't experienced the "buffeting" others have. Maybe I am getting it, but just not noticing it? I like it when a windshield is about level with my chin.
I like the look of the bike with the shield off. However, when I remove it I notice the difference right away. At high speed my back and shoulders get tired quicker.
Bags are an old set of "Iron Bags" I had laying around. a little smaller than I would like, but very stiff leather to keep their shape.
This all seems very interesting. I received an email from Wind Vest and they make a shield for the XBs. I might try that route. But I do think I am going to go with the "harley" sattle bags because the only time I will use them is for long trips and the extra room will be nice compared to the sweet looking swing arm bags. Please any continued advice would be very welcomed.
