I have the taller XBones windshield and the HD bags. I am 5'10" and no problem with buffeting with the windshield. Around town I usually run without the WS, but on long day trips I find that my arms and shoulders get very tired quickly w/o the WS. As for the bags, I installed the Barebacks quick disconnects and around town rarely use the bags, but for long day trips, they are nice to carry the rain gear, sunscreen, a jacket or long sleeve shirt, etc. A swingarm bag just won't do it for a 250 mile day trip IMO.
No bags but have the low profile windshield, at 5' 10" it was a little low, when I switched to 2" springs it came right to my chin where I like it. No buffeting issue with me, just came back from Laconia, 500 miles each way and without the shield it would have been much harder. Above 70 was no issue for me.
I am looking to see if anyone has put saddle bags and a detachable windshield on there XBs if they have how did it turn out and how did they like it. Also what products did you use. Thank you for your time.
I just use some cheap through over for rallies and the screen is from Germany and is great at taking the pressure of you arms and chest on a long run,
I bought my xbones in june 2008. I'm 5'11" and i chose the standard windshield. Now they come with blacked out hardware if you like. My standard h-d winshield has chrome and matches the springer front end very well. I ride with the spring seat. And i think the windshield is great for all seasons. Bugs, rain and beer bottles have bounced off my windshield.
The bags i bought were h-d bags. They are very well made and have built in support to keep the bags from collapsing. They are not water proof, so your items in the bags should be in plastic. I'm very happy with them. Also on my bike i ride with the spring seat and also have the fender rack. You can get a h-d cargo net and haul even more. A little word of warning, opening and closing the bags with the metal buckle has put a scratch or two on my fender. I have a little that i clamp to two flaps when they're open for loading.
I have a Springer windshield (the lower one) on my Cross Bones and a Mustang solo seat. A recent trip to Barcelona of over 1,000 miles would not have been possible for me without both of these.
