Default Changing risers on a springer

won a set of these 2" risers off ebay
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CHROM...7%7C240%3A1318

when i took off the stock 4" risers i noticed they had riser stud adapters in them.
the 2" risers just came with standard allen style bolts to mount them like in the auction pic but they are to small to thread back into the top of the tree.

what do i need to do to get the 2" risers to work on a 98 springer softail?
thought i may could just reuse the old adapters in the new risers however i think they are going to be too long to reuse.

My guess is a stud adapter. My gooden tight 'stuff' bolt the risers on that way, the bolt goes into the adapter. My old stock ones had a nut that tightened the riser to the bolt.

when i took the stock risers off, the stud adapters came off with them.
there is a nut on the adapter on the bottom of the risers that takes a very slim walled deep socket that i dont have.

Hmmm....
My stockers went:
Top Clamp (Fork)
Stud
Bushing
Riser
Bushing
Washer
Nut
Spring (on one side)
Riser Cap

So the top and bottom of the stud was threaded. The bottom end threaded to the fork top clamp and the top end allowed for the nut that fastened the riser down.

My gooden tights went like this:
Top Clamp (Fork)
Stud
Bushing
Riser
Bushing
Washer
Bolt
Spring (on one side)
Riser Cap

So the bottom of the stud was threaded and the top end accepted a bolt (call it the female end). The bottom end threaded to the fork top clamp and the top end accepted the bolt that fastened the riser down.

So I would assume your set up takes a different stud, similar to the one that came with my gooden tights?

Hmmm...
This Link looks like similar style studs. Looks like you needed your top clamp to be tapped with a different thread... look for an adapter of some sort maybe? Do you know what thread the new bolts/studs you have are?

Also the Flea-Bay description says DNA. Possible DNA springers accept different threaded studs?

never saw were it said DNA in the auction. i know that some of the other type risers he sold mentioned for DNA and paugcho.

how much was that gooden tight setup and who sells it?

if i could get the adapters out of the old risers, im sure it would look identical to the pics you posted of the gooden tights.
im also wandering if maybe the top thread could be cut down some if it was too long to work in the smaller risers??

im not sure what thread is on the new ones but yea im certain the top thread has to be a different size than the bottom. those studs in the j&p page you posted look similar to what came with the new risers.

Art Alloy makes the gooden tight. Lots of guys on here with them and if your askin about poly bushings on a springer thats pretty much all you'll here back on the forum.

Do a quick search on google, almost all the usual suspects carry them. The FXSTS ones are for 4" risers and the FLSTS ones are for 2" I beleive. I got 4" badboy risers on my bike so I bought the FXSTS style.

Looking closer at your ebay pics I don't think the upper portion of the Gooden Tight stud is skinny enough to get up thru your risers, and you couldn't really trim them down as that is where the threading is for you bolt.

Do your new risers fit over top of the stock studs? What about picking up a bolt from Loews or Home Depot with a threading that would fit in your stock studs and go thru the risers?

Check out V-twin mfg. part number 37-0864

they have the larger threads for the trees and the smaller ones for the risers...1/2-13

i was just doing a search and came across that part number Cheesecake.
in fact i was just getting ready to post a question about them when i read your post.
https://www.masclassics.com/vtwin/1157.php
scroll down to the bottom under parts for OE springer. 1988-up Riser Stud Conversion part# 37-0864

technically they look like they would work with the new risers as long as the rubber bushings will fit in the new risers the way the stock ones are.
i could figure it out better if i could get the adapters out of the stock risers. thats not going to happen until i can find a socket that will hold that bottom nut. i dont have any slim walled sockets that will fit in there.

zach,
i had thought about just getting another bolt but the hole in the new risers are smaller than the thread size for the tree (were the bottom thread goes into)
im assuming the new risers were meant to have the bolt go from the top down instead of the bolt coming from the bottom like on a springer.
