Question Springer Rake - Got a parts book with a FXSTS in it and a minute or two

I am researching some information on putting a 21" wheel on my Crossbones. See Thread. I have most of the information I think I need, but recently got some info about gettin me a little more rake/fork angle out of my springer front end.

The jist of it is to chnage fork cups. Bikers Choice has some 3 degree fork cups out there BUT it seems to me that IF softail frames are the same for each model year, the difference between the FX and FL springers is probably in the fork cups?..

So My parts book 2008 FLSTSB has listed 4 main parts for the Fork Cups.
  • 48300-60 Roller Bering, w/cup (2)
  • 48306-88 Bearling Retainer, steering head
  • 48361-80 Dust Sheild, bearing upper
  • 48365-48A Dust Sheild, bearing lower

Any one with an FX style and a parts book let me know what they have?
My idea would be to use the OEM FX parts here.
Something with a FXSTS & FLSTSC would be ideal!

Well before I put any one out by diggin this info up, I took a trip out to HD this after noon and while I was their held them up for their 06 parts book.

The listed parts are identical to that of the 2006 FLSTSC & FXSTS.

Any one found a way to rake that FL springer a little - with out cutting and welding?

Ya, this is the angle I am going now.... Upper triple clamp is different in the FXSTS vs FLSTS models. I am pretty sure that the more inline FXSTS style is giving the FX models thier increased fork angle. The FL style upper clamp will push the forks forward above the neck, which inturn pulls the forks towards the bike below the neck.

FLSTS Style

It just doesn't appear that the parts are interchangable or the rest would be ...

Not on a springer; lower tree is welded to the rear fork legs.

If the upper trees are different as shown in the pics, then the lower tree/rear legs must be different, too. The legs welded to the lower tree would prevent them from lining up with any trees except those made for them.

This was my thought too... So I went out and took a close look at the bike.

Upper Tree Clamp Angle

Lower Tree/Legs Angle

Looks like I get the rake that comes with my fork unless I want to cut/weld the neck, which of course I don't. That lower fork angle is welded inplace as suggested above. Thanks for the pointer!

Default Off-centre bearing cups

Ive been lookin at the rake on my x-bones & wanna change it too.
Do you not know of someone who manufacturers a set of off-centre bearing cups ?.
I e-mailed a handful of companies last year but at that time they werent sure which would fit from older stock...
Regards,
Jon

The only other difference between FX and FL springers besides the top tree is that the FX springer is 1 inch longer. So I think in order to get the bikes to ride at the same height they give the FX a different top tree?....
