went to the dealer yesterday, and it took em a couple hours to figure it out.. he used a circuit breaker and started running down stuff.. turns out the brake lifght wasnt working either.. after investigating they found that the rain PROBABLY had nothing to do with it.. instead, the positive taillight wire was being pinched and shorted out.. it tripped the breaker 3 times while messin with the taillight... he fixed the wire, and it is right as rain.. the rain must of just been coincidental.. wierd it would happen after 3000 miles on the bike in the end of a long ride in the pouring rain.. oh well i guess, it is fixed.. they also did the recall while it was in..
glad it is fixed, i was riding it like it was, and didnt realize i had no brake light.. that could have been dangerous.. im glad it is fixed
Glad they fixed it for you. Having it go out after 3000 miles isn't really unusual. It would take a little time for a pinched wire to get cut through and short it out.
Good thing they found the brake light problem and fixed it too becasue your right, that could have been ugly.
I wouldn't Yuck with it, take it back to the dealer, that way her can't say Because U did (?) we're not sure what's wrong (?) now... Its theirs, so let them fix it and tell U what it was...
yeah, i was actually kinda glad it wasnt water related, something about it not making it through a rain storm kinda bothered me, but a wire being crimped at least can be understood.. i was kinda freaked when he told me the brake light wasnt working, i rode 300+ miles since saturday, with no brake light! i was lucky..
as for the recall, there is a acorn bolt that holds the front brake caliper and fender to the front end that has been vibrating out on late model springers, they replaced it with a bolt 3/8 of a inch longer so a kotter key could be inserted in the exposed end to assure it cant come out.. if it did vibrate out, the brake caliper 'could' come off and get tangled in wheel, and that wouldnt be pretty... i had my eye on it for the couple weeks its been since the recall was announced, since i live 100 miles from the dealer and hadnt gotten down yet, anyways, i put a dot on the acorn and periodically checked that it hadnt changed position.. at least i killed both birds with one stone.. its fixed, and now i am calm again.. man i love this bike..
i went to J&P cycles open house yesterday, and it was a good time.. lots of cool bike and products. when we left it looked like it might rain, andsoon after it was pooring.. we trudged through, and when i got home i was soaked to the bone.. right before i got home i realized that the turn signals on my 2009 xbones werent working.. no left, no right, and no hazards... the front ones do light up for the running lights, but no signals at all..
could rain really of done this.. i am a little concerned about the fact that a 09 bike would already be having troubles from a afternoon shower..
i need to get my manual out and figure out whats happening, but i am not impressed.
I have a 08 Crossbones not had this problem, but had water get into the tailight and rot the socket and totally smash the glass of the bulb had to remove it with pliers, bike was only 3 months old dealer replaced the whole unit under warranty, they reckon it can be a common fault with the bobbed fender
